Who we are
Our philosophy
The team at Cashmere Interior is a fresh mix of talented designers who are savvy to yesterday’s beauty, today’s styles and tomorrow’s innovations.
Cashmere Interior has a simple philosophy: give our clients a home they will love for years to come. Using our extensive design background and high level of customer service, making every aspect of the client experience enjoyable.
We are a residential interior design firm focusing on high-end furnishings, fabrics, accessories and art. Our look is classic; we are never too trendy, never too dated.
We will give you the look of fresh sophistication combined with the warmth and functionality of a comfortable home.
While we customize every home to fit the needs of the individual and the family, we specialize in an eclectic mix of collected antiques with contemporary furnishings and clean lines.
The design of your home will feel collected and personal rather than purchased from a showroom floor.

Charlene Petersen
Founder, Creative Director, Principal Designer
Charlene offers a unique background and perspective into the world of interior design. Her childhood was spent in the rural farmland of Chester County, PA with a close knit, hard working family.
Her life and career experiences have allowed her the opportunity to travel the world and see first hand what other cultures bring to the design arena. These travels and innate sensibilities give her an eye for wonderful one of kind pieces housed within the firm’s inventory.
Her personality is easy going, down to earth and she has an uncanny ability to determine what a client wants. Charlene’s core design inspiration draws from her metaphorical feeling of cashmere – hence, Cashmere Interior.

Whitney Wallin
Principal Designer
Whitney grew up cultivating life skills of discipline and decision making through a love of horses and competitive show jumping.
Hailing from the south, she received a degree in Interior Architecture and started her design journey at a high end residential architecture firm where she absorbed valuable construction knowledge and a greater understanding of how it influences interior spaces. This experience has blended with a love of interiors and a passion to create unique, livable spaces.
With her quick whit and fun loving personality, Whitney’s method offers an exceptional eye for details along with a collected and transitional aesthetic.

Joan Bowden
Operations Manager
Joan has 45 years accounting and operational experience in the design, wholesale, and construction industries. Her close attention to detail is one of her many attributes. Often called the “penny pincher”, she would like to point out that “it’s not the penny, it’s the principal”. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and 4 dogs, and her favorite pastimes are crafting and caring for her plants. She particularly likes to repurpose materials like the design library’s retired fabrics, leather, and tiles to make unique personalized items for family and friends.

When she has down time, she loves to create artwork that embodies complimentary tones and textures. Specifically, her watercolor artwork was featured in the House Beautiful Magazine – October/November 2021 issue.

Maya Khouri
Architectural Designer
Maya’s design aesthetic and outlook on life has been heavily influenced by her travels. She has lived and worked as a designer in London, New York, and Beirut where she spent time exploring her Lebanese background and honing her architectural drafting skills. Building on her degrees in architecture and design studies, she strives to create memorable moments in a space by grounding imaginative ideas into tangible experiences. She is always excited to see projects jump from a sketch to real life. Maya has been deeply creative from a very young age with a passion for art, drawing and music, having played the drums in multiple groups.

Soyin Darley
Project Manager
Soyin’s sense of creativity and innovation was cultivated at an early age alongside her family’s artistic prowess. As a first generation Indian American, she witnessed the power of hard work and determination early on, which has shaped her world and offers her a unique perspective. Curious and motivated, Soyin has worked across several industries in her career ranging from fashion to interior design. Soyin’s love for traveling has allowed her to experience the beauty of many cultures, while also embracing her own.

Rachel Kowitz
Studio Manager
Rachel was born in rural Pennsylvania, the daughter of a fine furniture maker and an art history teacher. Her appreciation for thoughtful design began at an early age as she watched her father single-handedly design and build their family’s Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired home.
With nearly two decades of experience, her exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex priorities with clarity and care are at the heart of her role at Cashmere.
Rachel balances her professional responsibilities with raising the four children she shares with her husband, David — along with their beloved Bernadoodle, Rocky.

Martie Stewart
Studio Manager
Martie’s background is in high-end residential design, creating interiors that balance refinement with warmth and livability. Coming from a family of designers, she developed an early appreciation for craftsmanship and thoughtful design — a foundation that continues to influence her work today.
She is particularly drawn to the intricacies of space planning and the art of layering fabrics and furnishings to create homes that feel grounded and timeless. Her approach is steady and collaborative, and she values the relationships built with clients, artisans, and trades.
For her, the most meaningful designs are the ones that feel effortless, comfortable, and uniquely reflective of the people who live in them.
